Here are four lies that you should believe if you want to fail in a spectacular fashion. The first two are lies that you should not believe if you actually want to make some money online. The last two are lies that you should not tell if you want to make money online. The first two lies are ones about internet marketing that Internet marketers believe and subsequently waste hours on. The last two are promoted in so many articles and books that it is hard to believe that they do not work, but the general public are so immune to them that you completely shatter your credibility as soon as you use them.

1 – Social media is a powerful tool in gaining new traffic

social media powerSocial media does have an effect on how much traffic you receive, but the effect is not nearly as powerful as many online gurus are making out that it is. In fact it seems that Google’s eagerness to promote their new Google+ social network may have created a wildfire of rumor that has turned into common knowledge fact (even though it is exaggerated).

Google made it clear that they are now accepting “Social Media Markers” into their decision process when ranking websites. Social media markers are made up of many different things, but some of the most prominent are “Likes.” These are similar to the thumbs system in YouTube or the literal “Like” system in Facebook. If a web page has a lot of likes then it is more likely to be ranked highly on the search engine results.

Other social media markers include people talking about your website or company on social media, people sharing or re-tweeting your content and links, and people adding links to your website into their social media profiles or conversations. At least I can say that”Social media traffic is not targeted and productive“.

Social media markers have an effect on your websites’ SEO ranking but are limited (SEO means Search Engine Optimization). You will feel a benefit if you get twenty social media markers one week. You will only feel a marginally better effect if you get two thousand social media markers the next week. On the other hand if you replaced that example with one about backlinks, then a sudden leap in backlink numbers would result in a sudden rise in your websites web page ranking on search engine results pages.

Traffic is linked to money making online. If you are wasting your time putting all of your efforts into social media with the hopes of improving your websites’ SEO for more traffic then you are never going to make any money online.

2 – Keyword choice should be done with keyword tools,analysis and metric reports

Using these tools at the very beginning is a good idea, and using them again at different points during your online marketing campaign is also a good idea. Using them at the start helps you to come up with a large and healthy list of keywords to use. Using them at different intervals during your marketing campaign helps to make you aware of any new and popular keywords to be sure you do not miss out on any high traffic words.

However, you should not simply base your choices on keyword tools, analysis and metric reports. Keyword choice should be a campaign long process that starts with a pool of words that are tested and altered over a long period of time. You should be using analytic data to see the difference that changing and swapping keywords has, and then looking at the results over a history timeline so that you can validate the changes. The good changes should be kept and the bad changes should be learned from.

The longer your website is up and running then the longer you have in order to evolve your on-page SEO to something that attracts targeted traffic. Using keyword tools, analysis and metric reports are okay, but they are not an influential part of your keyword evolution. Without evolving your keyword use, you will always end up struggling to get new traffic and will never make any money online.

Nobody online is dumb enough to believe that your limited time offer is anything more than a cheap marketing ploy. Do not put yourself into the same category as the low quality marketers that still use this cheap trick about internet marketing. The only people who believe this sort of marketing tactic are the ones who have already spent all of their money on swamp monster insurance. Using a time-limited offer will prevent you from making any decent amount of money online.

4 – Testimonials work

They do not seem to be working these days in the offline world or the online world. People out there are not stupid to believe the paid actors on TV when they give testimonials about products, so why would they believe a chunk of text with some persons face next to it.

There are many ways in which you can build trust between you and the consumer, but crude techniques such as testimonials are not the way to do it. They breed distrust, contempt and will prevent you from making money online.

That’s all about internet marketing tips that you should use and some that you should avoid. It is all about making trust on others and for that you have to talk straight to the people and be loyal to them.
